Around the silver mountain the pilgrims raise stupas — tiered monuments that echo the peak's own stepped snows. This pendant is one such monument made small enough to carry: each tier a stage of the ascent no one is permitted to make, narrowing to the point only the sky may touch. They held that a stupa you could carry was a pilgrimage that never had to end.
