Narrative

The Clockwork Dynasty believed colour was a kind of immortality — that a thing which kept its hue had refused to die. Where older makers used glaze, they used glass and a sealed gold seed: colour engineered never to dim in any light you carry it into. The gold bloom at the centre is a sun in miniature, kept bright the way the dynasty kept everything — by machine, and forever.
